Strande
Strande – Kerstin v. Schmidt-Phiseldeck

Strande - where art meets the climatic challenges of the Baltic Sea. Five new sculptures by Marie Griesmar are located about 20 kilometres from the Stadtgalerie Kiel in Strande on the Baltic Sea. Griesmar's works, which are intended for snorkellers and divers, depict animals that could theoretically colonise the seabed and are gradually being forced into these depths as a result of climate change. The question of how life forms adapt to changing conditions can also be found throughout Griesmar's oeuvre. After designing six sculptures for Lake Geneva (on display at the Stadtgalerie Kiel), she has now turned her attention to potential developments in the Baltic Sea for this new series. While diving - you can attend the snorkelling courses offered as part of the Biennale, among other things! - participants can draw underwater using special paper. These drawings are then exhibited in the town gallery, giving some the opportunity to take part in an exhibition in a museum for the first time. Also in Strande, not far from the sculptures, the 22nd panel of the art and nature trail is located directly on the beach, with the artist's instructions and the final puzzle.

The municipality of Strande is a popular holiday resort, not only for divers, even in the low season. The section around the Bülk lighthouse in particular is a well-known kitesurfing and windsurfing spot in easterly winds. Strande is also the terminus of several bus routes operated by the Kiel Region Transport Association (VRK) and is therefore well connected to Kiel city centre. During the summer months, the passenger ships of the Kiel tug and ferry company also call at Strande. Bicycles can also be taken on board.

The ferries are currently not running.
