Fabian Knecht
With his works, which often appear unexpectedly in public spaces, Fabian Knecht breaks out of the exhibition context and into everyday life. He changes patterns of perception and behaviour, violates concepts of art and power structures, and challenges social relations and norms with strong, provocative counter-images. Fabian Knecht, born in Magdeburg in 1980, studied at the Berlin University of the Arts and the California Institute of the Arts. In 2014, he was a master student of Olafur Eliasson, at whose Institute for Spatial Experiments he studied from 2009 to 2013. In 2012 he worked in Matthew Barney's studio in New York. Fabian Knecht's works have been shown in national and international institutions and exhibitions, including the MSU Museum of Contemporary Art (Zagreb), the Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, the Neue Nationalgalerie (Berlin), the Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin), the Imperial War Museum (London) and the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden.
