Pictures of the curator’s Art-Science Tour with Bernard Vienat and Prof. Dirk Brandis
ven., 25 oct. 2024, 16h00 – 18h00
This curator-led tour at the Zoological Museum Kiel offers visitors a unique opportunity to engage with the museum’s zoological collection, enhanced by contemporary art installations and drawings. Led by curator Bernard Vienat and Museum Director Prof. Dirk Brandis, the tour provides an enriching dialogue that blends two complementary perspectives on sustainability: one from contemporary art and the other from science.
As participants explore the dynamic interaction between artistic and scientific views of nature, they will gain fresh insights into biodiversity, evolution, and humanity's relationship with the natural world. Vienat’s focus on contemporary art installations, such as Andreas Greiner's "Monument for 308" and Mark Dion's humorous yet critical works, invites reflection on how art can challenge anthropocentric worldviews. Meanwhile, Prof. Brandis will illuminate the scientific grounding of the museum’s zoological and marine research collections, offering a clear view on how science informs our understanding of sustainability.
Together, their complementary discourses reveal how the intersection of art and science can inspire new ways of thinking about nature, fostering curiosity and promoting a deeper understanding of sustainability and biodiversity.
