Kiel Weekend for Art and Science

Our city is known for Kiel Week, but now there is also a Kiel Weekend for Art and Science! For the final weekend of (re)connecting.earth in Kiel, we are organising a series of events and activities in public spaces to encourage and inspire participation. Maybe we really need a Kiel weekend for art and science. Do you agree that it's time for change?

Here you will find an overview of the special events that will get Kiel moving with art, science and ecology. We are counting on you - not just as visitors, but as active participants!

25.10. 16:00 - 18:00

Exploring nature: A curatorial tour

With Bernard Vienat and Prof Dr Dirk Brandis

Zoological Museum Kiel, Hegewischstraße 3

(re)connecting.earth curator Bernard Vienat and museum director Prof Dirk Brandis will guide you through a stimulating tour that combines contemporary art and science and opens up new perspectives on sustainability and our relationship with nature.

26.10. 11:00 - 13:00

Art walk

Zoological Museum Kiel, Hegewischstraße 3

Registration: https://calendly.com/reconnecting_earth/kunst-ist-fur-alle-da

Together with playwright Mia Myu, we will walk the art and nature trail in the castle garden and activate two of the 22 art installations in the surrounding area. Each station consists of an artwork with an artist's wish, an information text by the artist, a fun fact about biodiversity and a puzzle. Do you want to draw and share your drawing with microbes or turn yourself into an insect? You can choose what interests you most!

26.10. 13:00 - 18:00

Workshop - Art

Textile workshop with the artist Raul Walch

City Gallery Kiel, Andreas-Gayk-Straße 31

Registration: https://calendly.com/reconnecting_earth/anmeldung-textil-workshop-mit-dem-kunstler-raul-walch

Design a flag for the sea with Berlin artist Raul Walch! Who represents the oceans and which symbol stands for the waves? We will make a functional flag from reused and recycled textiles that flies for the deepest seas.

26.10. 18:00 - 19:00

Dialogue - art and science

Panel discussion on art and marine conservation

With Marie Griesmar (artist of the exhibition), Mark Lenz (Geomar) and Miriam Hansen (Snorkeling City)

City Gallery Kiel, Andreas-Gayk-Straße 31

At a time when marine ecosystems are facing worrying challenges, can the convergence of artistic expression and scientific research open up new perspectives on these vital underwater environments?

Marie Griesmar expands her artistic practice to include a practice for the protection of ecosystems. The conversation, moderated by Bernard Vienat, will be enriched by the participation of Dr Mark Lenz, who will share his research on invasive species and his experience in renaturalisation. Miriam Hansen from ‘Snorkeling City’ will also take the floor. Her programme offers school classes the opportunity to discover underwater life in a unique way.

26.10. from 22:00

Party of Reconnection

Music by Gaara and D.N.A.

Luna Club, Bergstraße 17, 24103 Kiel

At the end of the Biennale programme, we invite you to the Luna Club from 10 pm. The DJ duo gaara and d.n.a. will provide the background music. Here you can talk to all those involved in the project, such as the curator Bernard Vienat or exhibiting artists. From midnight, the Afro Yard event will also take place on the lower floor. Afro Yard is a project that celebrates African culture in the diaspora. It combines various subcultural influences from music and culture with live events in northern Germany.

We look forward to seeing you at our events this weekend! However, the exhibitions in the Stadtgalerie Kiel and the Zoological Museum Kiel can still be seen until 24 November.
